Lisätietoja Moldova-ottelun peruuntumisesta.
Vajaa kaksi viikkoa ennen ottelun ajankohtaa Helsingin kaupunki ilmoitti peruvansa aiemmin varatut kenttävaraukset; 21.5. miesten maaottelu Moldovaa ja 28.5. naisten maaottelu Sveitsiä vastaan. Myöhäinen kevät vaikuttaa nurmikenttien kuntoon.
Jo tässä vaiheessa olimme yhteydessä Rugby Europeen tilanteesta. Tämän jälkeen aloimme etsimään vaihtoehtoista nurmikenttää 100 km säteellä pääkaupunkiseudulta. Sopivaa käytössä olevaa nurmikenttää, joka olisi sopinut ottelun järjestämiseen ei kuitenkaan löytynyt. Tältä alueelta siksi, että kaikki matkustus -ja majoitusvaraukset oli tehty joukkueiden osalta pääkaupunkiseudulle eikä ne olleet enää muutettavissa ilman isoja kuluja.
Seuraava vaihtoehto oli miettiä tekonurmivaihtoehtoa. Suomessa ei ole World Rugbyn hyväksymiä tekonurmia, mutta Rugby Europen mukaan FIFA quality pro -tason kenttä kävisi. Pääkaupunkiseudulla on kaksi tällaista kenttää; Myyrmäen stadion ja Bolt Arena. Myyrmäestä ei kuitenkaan löytynyt sopivia vuoroja ottelulle. Bolt Arenalta saatiin sopiva vuoro ja koska se sopi molemmille joukkueille sekä saatiin hyväksyntä Rugby Europelta, päätettiin ottelu järjestää siellä. Kuitenkin tiistaina iltapäivällä 17.5. Rugby Europe ilmoittikin, että tätä kenttää ei olisikaan pitänyt hyväksyä käyttöön, ja että kenttä pitää vielä hyväksyä ja testata World Rugbyn puolesta. World Rugbyn hyväksymän kolmannen osapuolen 19.5. suorittaman testin mukaan HIC-arvo (head injury criterion) osittain nukan pituudesta johtuen ei täyttänyt kriteereitä, joten kentän käyttö kiellettiin
SRL on erittäin pahoillaan tilanteesta. Bolt Arenan vuokraus on taloudellisestikin iso satsaus eikä siitä saada rahoja takaisin. Tarkoitus oli ottaa stadionista hyöty irti myös näkyyyden kannalta ja mediaa olikin tulossa paikalle. Suurin harmitus on tietysti joukkueemme puolesta, joka ei päässyt näyttämään osaamistaan ja kamppailemaan sarjavoitosta sekä historiallisesta sarjanoususta. Maanantaina pitäisi tulla Rugby Europelta päätös mitä ottelun kanssa tehdään ja miten sarjassa lopulta käy.

Learn more about the cancellation of the Moldova match.
Less than two weeks before the match, the City of Helsinki announced that it was canceling the booked field reservations; 21.5. Finnish men's match against Moldova and 28.5. Finnish women's match against Switzerland. Sighting the condition of the pitch due to a late spring. Immediately we were in touch with Rugby Europe about the situation. After that, the SRL started looking for an alternative grass field within a radius of 100 km from the metropolitan area. However, no suitable grassfield was found that would have been suitable for a match. This area was required because all Travel and accommodation bookings had been made for the teams in the Helsinki metropolitan area and could no longer be changed without high costs.
The next option was to think about the artificial turf option. There are no artificial turf approved by World Rugby in Finland, but according to Rugby Europe, the FIFA quality pro level field would be acceptable. The metropolitan area has two such fields; Myyrmäki Stadium and Bolt Arena. However, no suitable pitch times were found in Myyrmäki for the men's match. A suitable pitch time was obtained from Bolt Arena and since it was suitable for both teams and had received approval from Rugby Europe, it was decided to hold the match there.
However, on Tuesday 17.5. Indeed, Rugby Europe stated that this field should not have been approved for use and that the field has yet to be approved and tested on behalf of World Rugby. SRL is very sorry about the situation. Renting a Bolt Arena is a big investment and rent is not refundable. The intention was to take advantage of the stadium in terms of visibility as well, and the media was coming to the scene. The biggest annoyance is, of course, on behalf of our team, which failed to show off their skills and struggle for a series win as well as a historic series promotion. On Monday, a decision should come from Rugby Europe about what will be done with the match and how the series will end up.
